We have received
our written decree from the Vatican regarding our Apostolic Signatura
appeal. The decree translation is in the vigil office for all to review. All 10
appeals from Boston have been denied. The decrees affirm the decision of the
Congregation of the Clergy and permit the Archdiocese to close parishes to save
the Archdiocese. We disagree that this is permitted under Canon Law and believe
that this ruling will only further harm the larger Church. The next step is
Relegating the Church to the Profane, which means to "desanctify" the Church
prior to selling it. We have notified the Archdiocese that we require notice.
We can also appeal that process, which requires "grave cause." This is higher
standard. We will protest this process as well. Letters have been sent to the
Archdiocese notifying them that we intend to appeal. Please know that despite
this ruling, however, all is not lost. We are joining in an
Extraordinary Recourse to Pope Benedict XVI, which is expected to be presented
in September. There are other actions being discussed. Last but not least, we
continue to request that Cardinal O'Malley talk with us to resolve our status.
As is our usual course when we receive an appeal notice, we have written to
Cardinal O'Malley asking him to reopen our parish.
In the meantime,
we will continue here at St. Jeremiah as we have been. The decree
translation as well as letters to the Archdiocese and Cardinal O'Malley will be
available in the vigil office. Continue to pray that Cardinal O'Malley
recognizes us for what we are and fully re-establishes St. Jeremiah as a parish.
Please continue to keep him, as well as our request, in your prayers. |
