Dedicated/ Restricted Gifts

If your family donated a particular gift for a reason, example in memory of a loved one, please let us know so that we can preserve it for the future. Dedicated or restricted gifts must be identified for us to preserve them. If you would like to stop down at the Church to identify them, that would be great.

BACKGROUND: St. Jeremiah Parish (www.stjeremiah.org) is one of the Archdiocese of Boston’s 82 churches slated for closure. The parishioners of St. Jeremiah continue to argue the closing on the grounds it violates both Cannon Law against closing vibrant and financially self-sufficient parishes, and the guidelines set for by Archbishop O’Malley in the spring of 2004 for the Reconfiguration process.

This church is in excellent physical condition, was financially completely solvent, and had steady attendance. The church also has historical significance in that it is the childhood parish of Christa McAuliffe, the teacher in space who died in the Space Shuttle Challenger tragedy in January, 1986. Thousands of school children from around the world raised funds for a Clarion Bell set attached to the church, which rings daily. These bells can still be heard by Christa’s mother Grace Corrigan. Closing the church and demolishing it as the Archdiocese plans will cause this to be lost forever.

A prayerful vigil to help preserve this church during the Appeal process will be underway on Sunday, May 8 following the Mass.

The Friends of St. Jeremiah web site contains a lot of background information, past articles and interviews, and photos the media can use in stories or articles about the church. Also listed is contact information to schedule interviews.
